Our Apples
Many changes have occurred over the years. The family orchard moved to a new sales barn and changed the name to Crossroad Orchard in the early 1980s. The original orchard has been replaced. The orchard now has approximately 1,800 semi-dwarf trees. That total includes 200 trees that were planted in the spring of 2004. The trees are planted in rows with 10 feet between trees, and 24 feet between
rows. The semi-dwarf trees are about half as tall as standard trees. These shorter trees are easier to maintain and harvest. The root stock that supports the trees encourages rapid development and production of a market crop in roughly 5 years. Currently, we grow 30 varieties of apples including many for crisp and flavorful in-hand eating, plus the tart and spicy apples for pies and cooking.
